Recipe: Spring Tonic Soup with Nettles and Dandelion

As April ushers in the heart of spring, we are reminded of the natural rhythms of renewal and growth. The energy of the earth shifts, encouraging us to shed the heaviness of winter and embrace the vibrant vitality of spring. This season brings the elements of Ether and Air, fostering movement, change, and a lightness that may feel both invigorating and, at times, unsettling. If you find yourself feeling anxious or dry, you’re not alone—this transitional period can stir up a lot within us.

The first green shoots of spring—such as nettles and dandelion greens—offer perfect allies to support us during this seasonal shift. These plants are powerhouses of vitamins, minerals, and cleansing properties, gently detoxifying the body while replenishing vital nutrients.

I always find that April has a special kind of energy. It feels like a creative surge, a burst of new vitality that makes me want to dive into new projects, ideas, and experiences. Much like how plants push through the soil, I feel a sense of inner growth as I trust and surrender to the flow of the seasons.

Celebrating a Season of Growth: The Herbalist’s Collaborative

I couldn’t be more proud of the growth, learning, and community that blossomed over the last six months. One of the gifts of this season was having Tamar lead our plant meditations. With her in that role, I was able to experience the meditations in a more present and surprisingly poetic way—letting go of the facilitation hat and simply receiving. It reminded me just how magical it is to connect with plants through personal, energetic experience. Each of us had our own experiences to share, and yet, there is this beautiful thread of overlap that makes the whole experience feel deeply interconnected.

This was a season full of powerhouse herbalists and curious seekers alike. We had an Ayurvedic practitioner who brought such a welcome grounded, elemental wisdom into our conversations. Others were launching workshops, new websites, even shifting careers. It’s inspiring to witness how this community becomes a catalyst for real transformation.

The case studies this season were a clear favorite. We really leaned into the challenge of crafting energetically aligned protocols—and our confidence continues to grow! Having Kat return for a second season brought even more depth to the teachings, her Tissue States lectures really helped us solidify our energetics practice. Her presence and wisdom truly enrich the program and it is an honor getting to know her better!

In our closing circle, I offered the words “inspiring, devoted, intimacy, evolution and transformation” to describe what I witnessed in the group. When they offered words back to describe me, they said “consistent”—and I have to say, that touched me deeply. Creating and holding a steady, supportive space is something I value greatly, and to know that it’s felt and appreciated means the world.

And yes—there’s more magic ahead! Next season, we’re adding new offerings, including Tammi Sweet’s online Anatomy & Physiology course, and a mentorship track with Kat for clinical herbalists. Watching this program evolve alongside the people in it is one of my greatest joys.

It is a reminder of how powerful community can be, especially through the winter months and with people who share similar values. I’m deeply grateful to each person who participated, and I can’t wait to see how the seeds planted during this season continue to grow in the months to come.

To everyone who was part of this season—thank you. You are the heart of this work. May this spring bring you growth, clarity, and connection—with yourself, with the plants, and with the wild wisdom all around you.

Self-Discovery Prompt: Spring is a time of renewal and growth, both in nature and within ourselves. If you’re seeking ways to harmonize with this energy, try taking a mindful walk in nature. Observe the signs of new growth and reflect on how they mirror your own personal journey. What patterns or beliefs might you release this season to create space for new growth? How can you invite more vitality and creativity into your life as the earth awakens?

Supporting our bodies with nutrient-dense foods and herbs can help ease this seasonal shift. This Spring Tonic Soup is both restorative and nourishing, perfect for supporting your system as you transition into spring’s energy.

As I harvest spring greens like nettles and dandelion, I feel so connected to the cycle we’re all part of—emerging from the quiet transformation of winter and stepping into the light, renewed. This Spring Tonic Soup has been a seasonal staple, reminding me that nourishment can be simple, wild, and full of vitality.

Recipe: Spring Tonic Soup with Nettles and Dandelion Ingredients:

  • 2 cups fresh nettles (wear gloves when handling)

With love and seasonal blessings,

Justine
